What is Custard?

Custard is a thick, creamy sweet dessert.

There are two types of custard:

- Home-made: custard is made from milk, eggs, butter, sugar, cornstarch and vanilla extract.

- Store-bought custard is made of maize starch, wheat starch, sugar, salt, colors (102, 110, 150d) and flavors.

Can I Give Custard To My Baby?

Yes. Giving your baby home-made custard is perfectly safe after 6 months of age. Babies love it. It is delicious, simple on their taste buds and increases their enthusiasm for food.

Babies that are older than 6 months old have higher energy needs and require nutrient-dense foods that will satisfy their appetite and promote their growth and development.

Is Home-made Custard Good For Babies?

Custard has many health advantages that can support your baby's growth in addition to being a yummy dessert to enjoy after a meal.

Babies can benefit from the calcium, protein and vitamin D that milk and eggs in custard can provide.

 

Is Powdered Custard Healthy For Babies?

No. Powdered custard is made of corn flour and is a quicker way to make effortless custard at home. 

Although it does not give baby extra fat, it is not considered healthy as it contains a lot of sweeteners, preservatives and other artificial flavors and colors.

Store-bought powder custard has no benefits at all. However, freshly made custard has more carbohydrates and lipids than powdered custard.

Oats Custard is made with oats, milk and egg yolk; it can be a nutritious and healthy option for babies, as oats are a good source of dietary fiber, vitamins and minerals. With the combination of egg yolk, milk and oats, all of which are rich in calcium.

These ingredients are all crucial for baby's development. 

P.S: You can make oats custard with our baby oat cereal! Just add 1/4 cup of oat cereal, 1 cup of milk, a banana and vanilla extract for some sweetness!
